It also explains a lot about how the countries function today: compare the railways the British built in India, criss-crossing the whole continent in all directions, with the few, short single lines from coast to mines that are the heritage of European colonialism in Africa ….
Thanks Bea. Sorry for the late response. I had the opportunity to ride from Pisa to Florence, Italy. It was a very pleasant trip; and I didn’t have to be concerned with traffic. I need to just hop on a train in the U.S. and ride it again to renew the experience.
